The venue was built at a cost of $200 million to a design by renowned studio Populous. It features an asymmetrical, dynamic shape. The roof, which fully covers the stands, slopes down from the main stand. A major advantage of Children's Mercy Park is the short distance between the stands and the pitch.

The stadium has a closed layout. All four stands (East, West, Supporters and Price Chopper South), connected at the corners, are single tier. There is one screen each above the Supporters and Chopper South stands.

What is the history of Children's Mercy Park, Copa América 2024 stadium?

The stadium was built in about a year and a half. Work lasted from January 2010 to May 2011, with the inaugural game taking place on 9 June 2011. Sporting Kansas City took on Chicago Fire, and the match ended in a goalless draw.

The facility was originally named Livestrong Sporting Park, and a globally unique agreement with the cancer-fighting Livestrong Foundation called for the club to donate $7.5 million to the organisation. However, the contract was scrapped in 2013 and the Children's Mercy Hospital became the next sponsor.

The stadium has hosted four editions of the Gold Cup, World Cup qualifying matches for the US national team, matches for the US women's team and the Olympic team.
