Where is Allegiant Stadium, the stadium of Copa América 2024, located?
Allegiant Stadium is located in Paradise, Nevada, near the Las Vegas Strip. It is a modern, multi-purpose stadium with a dome that serves as the home of the NFL team Las Vegas Raiders and the UNLV Rebels college football team. Although Paradise is not the most famous town in the state of Nevada, with Las Vegas nearby, there are interesting places to visit here too. Paradise is home to the Las Vegas Strip - the most famous casinos and hotels.
What does the Copa América 2024 stadium in Paradise look like?
Completed in 2020, the stadium features a sleek design with a dominant black and silver façade. The roof is made of a transparent ETFE material that allows natural light to enter. The architecture of the stadium includes several distinctive elements. The northern end zone has large, sliding curtain windows that offer stunning views of the Las Vegas Strip. A unique feature inside the stadium is the Al Davis Memorial Torch, a 92-foot structure commemorating the late Raiders owner Al Davis. This torch is known as the largest 3D printed object in the world.
What is the history of Allegiant Stadium, the Copa América 2024 stadium?
Allegiant Stadium has a history that began with the dream of a new home for the NFL team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Plans for the stadium began in 2016 when Raiders owner Mark Davis announced his intention to move the team from Oakland to Las Vegas. A key factor in making the move possible was the need for a new stadium, as the previous facility in Oakland did not meet NFL league requirements.
In April 2016, Davis pledged $500 million to build the stadium, with an additional $650 million raised by Shelton Adelson, owner of Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The remaining funds came from city bonds, bringing the total budget to $1.9 billion. Construction began in November 2017 and the facility was completed in July 2020. The first game at the stadium was on September 21, 2020, when the Raiders defeated the New Orleans Saints.
