Centreville Bank Stadium – stadium description
What does Centreville Bank Stadium look like in a nutshell?
Centreville Bank Stadium is a soccer-specific facility that was built primarily to accommodate the new Rhode Island FC team, which in 2024 joined the USL Championship, the second-ranked (after MLS) soccer league in the United States.
The stadium opened on May 3, 2025, with a capacity of 10,700 spectators, and is located near downtown Pawtucket (Providence metropolitan area), on the Seekonk River waterfront near the Interstate 95.
How was Centreville Bank Stadium developed?
The initiative to create a new soccer club in Pawtucket was taken by businessman Brett M. Johnson, who had previously invested in soccer teams, including the USL team, Phoenix Rising FC.
The choice of Pawtucket was influenced by the relocation of the Minor League Baseball team, the Pawtucket Red Sox, which moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, leaving a gap in the local sports market.
When was the project to build a new stadium in Pawtucket conceived?
The new club was to join the USL Championship, and one of the key elements of the plan was to build a new stadium for the team. Along with the stadium, an entire development project was to be implemented, which was given the name Tidewater Landing.
The Tidewater Landing project was announced on December 2, 2019 at a conference attended by the then Governor Gina Raimondo and Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, among others. Behind the project was the development group Fortuitous Partners, led by Brett M. Johnson.
In addition to the stadium, the plan called for the construction of apartments, stores, a hotel and an arena for hosting various events, as well as the revitalization of the entire area. The project was intended to be developed on the Seekonk River, on both banks – so a footbridge was also planned.
The plot of land chosen for the stadium was located where a coal gasification plant formerly operated from the 1880s to 1968.

How did the construction of the new stadium in Pawtucket come about?
The entire project was expected to cost $400 million and was described as the largest economic undertaking in Pawtucket's history. The share of public funds was to be about 20%. According to initial assumptions, the stadium was to accommodate 7,500 spectators.
The first phase of the project saw the construction of a new stadium. Prior to the start of construction, the plot was cleaned of toxic substances that accumulated when it was used for industrial purposes.
In the meantime, the projected cost of building the stadium increased significantly, from $84 million to $124 million (the assumed capacity also increased, to more than 10,000 spectators). In the summer of 2022, state authorities decided to reallocate funds that had originally been earmarked to support the next phase of the project, allowing construction to begin.
When was the new stadium in Pawtucket built?
The groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium took place on August 12, 2022 with the participation of the governor Dan McKee. Dimeo Construction Company became the main contractor. In November 2022, it was announced that the new club would be named Rhode Island FC. The team was scheduled to debut in the USL Championship in the 2024 season.
Subsequent budgeting problems led to a temporary halt in the spring of 2023. The commissioning date was postponed, and the club announced that it would play its inaugural season (2024) at Beirne Stadium, owned by Bryant University.
Rhode Island FC's first season was a great success. The team won the USL Championship Eastern Conference championship and advanced to the final of the competition, where they lost to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
Construction of the facility was finally completed in the spring of 2025, and the cost at the end was about $130 million.

What was the name given to the new stadium in Pawtucket?
Less than a month before the opening, on April 8, 2025, the title sponsor of the new stadium was announced as Centreville Bank, and the facility was named Centreville Bank Stadium (previously the stadium was referred to as The Stadium at Tidewater Landing or Tidewater Stadium).
When was Centreville Bank Stadium inaugurated?
The inauguration of the new stadium took place on May 3, 2025, on the occasion of Rhode Island FC's first home game of the new season (the team played its first few games away). In the opening game, with a full crowd, the hosts tied with San Antonio FC 0–0.
What are the characteristics of Centreville Bank Stadium?
The stadium was built primarily for Rhode Island FC. The facility has a soccer-specific configuration, with a capacity of 10,700 spectators, and has fixed stands arranged on three sides of the pitch: the west (main, two-tiered stand) and behind both goals.
On the east side, two mobile stands have been set up as well as the largest video screen in the stadium. In the future, it will be possible to build a new permanent stand on this side, which is expected to increase the venue's capacity to 15,000 seats.
Fans can enjoy lodges, comfortable premium areas and a wide range of food and beverage options.
Where is Centreville Bank Stadium located?
The stadium is located near downtown Pawtucket, on the Seekonk River waterfront near the Interstate 95 bridge. Pawtucket is a city located in the northern part of the Providence metropolitan area, the state capital of Rhode Island.
