Bulldog Stadium – stadium description
How was Bulldog Stadium in La Porte built?
The construction of the new Bulldog Stadium was made possible by the outcome of a bond election held on May 6, 2023, in which residents of the La Porte Independent School District voted in favor of a $235 million bond issue, of which $56 million was allocated for the new stadium.
The stadium was built on the site of the previous Bulldog Stadium, which had been in use since 1947. The field and track of the new stadium were slightly shifted northeast.
Demolition of the old stadium began in summer 2023, and construction of the new facility started later that year (the official groundbreaking ceremony took place on January 13, 2024). The design was prepared by Huckabee, and the main contractor was Tellepsen.
The new Bulldog Stadium officially opened on May 14, 2025, with the highlight of the inauguration being the Spring Football Game, a preseason internal scrimmage of La Porte Bulldogs (Orange and White Game).
The first official high school football game at the stadium took place on August 29, 2025, when the Bulldogs defeated the Deer Park Wildcats 35–31 in the traditional rivalry known as the Border Battle, marking the start of the new season.
What does Bulldog Stadium in La Porte look like?
Bulldog Stadium features a football field and an 8-lane athletics track. The track is surrounded on three sides by U-shaped stands, divided into two tiers and mostly fitted with benches, with a total capacity estimated at 9–12,000 spectators. The stadium also has artificial lighting.
On the west side, there is a four-story press box overlooking Galveston Bay. Behind the northern curve, instead of stands, there is the school and athletic support facility (Legacy Complex), which features a large video scoreboard.
The stadium serves students, athletes, and the local community, with the La Porte Bulldogs of La Porte High School as its main tenant.
The facility is located on the campus of La Porte High School, near Sylvan Beach. La Porte is a town situated on Galveston Bay, in the eastern part of the Houston metropolitan area.
