Stadion Miejski w Zakopanem – stadium description
The intimate stadium on Orkana Street in Zakopane was built after the Second World War. The facility has low, three-tier stands with wooden benches that stretch along the pitch, on the north side. On the south side there are sheltered player' benches. Sanitary facilities and changing rooms are also located next to the stadium. The capacity of the venue is reported to be 200 spectators. The pitch measures 99 × 58 m.
From a bird's-eye view, the outline of the athletics track that formerly surrounded the pitch can be seen. To the south and west, the facility is surrounded by low earth embankments. The stadium is surrounded by buildings that can be perfectly seen from the stands and the pitch - these are the buildings of Primary School No. 1, the Parzenica Conference and Leisure Centre, the Tatra Shooting Academy shooting range, the headquarters of the "Sokoł" Gymnastic Association and residential houses. The Tatra Mountains are also visible from the site.
A thorough modernisation of the stadium has been planned for years. The concept is to create, among other things, a 90 × 45 m pitch with an artificial surface, which will be surrounded by a 330 m long athletics track. New stands for 400 spectators, together with a club building and changing rooms, will be built on the Orkana Street side. The additional reduction in the size of the pitch will mean that the facility will only be suitable for low-level matches, which has drawn protests from the football community.
