Pocari Sweat Stadium – stadium description

When was the Pocari Sweat Stadium opened?

Naruto's football and athletics stadium opened in May 1971, and the facility has since undergone several upgrades, including in 1992 when lighting masts were installed, in 2004 to make it suitable for J2 League play, in 2013–2014 when a new covered stand was built in place of the grass-covered slope on the east side, and in 2015 when a new roof was added to the main stand.

Who does Pocari Sweat Stadium serve?

The stadium is the main athletics facility in Tokushima Prefecture. In 1993, an athletics competition was held there as part of the 48th National Sports Festival. In 1994, the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Soccer Club (now Tokushima Vortis) also started using the stadium. In 2005, the team made its debut in the J2 League and in the 2013 season, became the first club from Sikoku Island to win historic promotion to the J1 League.

What are the characteristics of Pocari Sweat Stadium?

The stadium has a tartan athletics track, which is surrounded on all sides by stands, preceded near the corners. The capacity of the stands is 17,924 spectators. The main stand with VIP boxes is located on the west side. A roof is located over the central part of the main stand and over the east stand. Also, plastic chairs are installed in the covered sectors, with benches in the other areas of the stands. Four lighting masts have been erected in the corners of the stadium, and a video screen stands on the southern curve.

The facility is located within a larger sports complex, which also includes an auxiliary stadium with a running track, a baseball stadium, tennis courts and sports halls. The stadium's current name, promoting the isotonic drink brand Pocari Sweat, has been in place since 2007.
