Audi-Sportpark – stadium description

When FC Ingolstadt 04 won promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, the club were given a 2-year probation period to provide a satisfying stadium. In June 2008 decision was made to build a completely new venue in the place of former oil refinery. Planning permission was given in October and in May 2009 construction started.

Simple stands have one tier and were designed by arteplan, who also included potential expansion in their vision. To bring capacity up to some 22,000 the roof needs to go up slightly and 3-4 rows can be added. A plan of over 30,000 would require completely new cover, though, as the current one would not protect all viewers.

Construction was delivered according to plan in just 14 months, with opening coming in July 2010. The project was also kept within its tight budget of €24 million.

There are two training pitches next to the stadium.
