Kuban Stadion – stadium description
New stadium in Krasnodar was built next to the Karasun Lake, in the place of former wastelands. Construction started on October 30th 1960 and official opening took place in mid-May 1961 with a game of local Spartak, a 2nd league club.
When it was opened, the stands were single-tiered and could host app. 20,000 people. But as the top flight of USSR came to town in 1979, a revamp was required to adjust the ground to higher demand and standard. Floodlights appeared as well as 2nd tier of seating alongside the pitch that doubled the ground’s capacity.
