Centralnyj Stadion – stadium description
In 1960 construction along design by V. E. Portyankin was done to give Kazan its new central stadium. Works were commissioned in late June and official opening took place with Rubin smashing Metallurg of Kamensk-Uralsky in August. Back then the ground had patronage of Lenin, as many sport venues at that time. Name was cut short to just Central Stadium in Kazan after change of regime.
Initial capacity was set at some 30,000 seats, but those were mostly on benches. In early 2000’s the stadium went through a thorough redevelopment that decreased capacity to just below 27,000, this time with individual seats. Half of the spectators are covered, including the away allocations.
