Although the matches of the U.S. men's national soccer team are in high demand, not every sports fan in the United States is exactly interested in soccer. This will be the seventh international match at TQL Stadium and the fourth featuring the USMNT, which remains undefeated at this venue. Early ticket access begins June 27 for FC Cincinnati Season Ticket Members, followed by public sales on June 28.

New stadium in Cincinnati

FC Cincinnati's new home is located in the West End neighborhood. You can see both this and many other stadiums from this country on the US stadiums page on our website. The facility was built on a plot of land previously occupied by parking lots and the athletic Willard Stargel Stadium, which was used for school games. The site in question was one of three being considered for the construction of a stadium for FC Cincinnati, which was bidding for MLS. Approval for construction at the site officially came in April 2018.

A month later, Cincinnati's application to participate in the most important soccer league in the United States was approved and the club was able to enter the competition in 2019. Until the new stadium was completed, it played its home matches at Nippert Stadium.

The design of the arena was entrusted to Dan Meis' studio, but in March 2019 it was announced that the office responsible for developing the stadium concept had changed. Populous stepped in, making changes to the documentation while groundwork was already underway.

The arena was to receive a completely new facade consisting of as many as 513 whalebones, each with LED luminaires along their entire length. In the end, 387 of them were built (287 of which are illuminated), and the western main stand is not equipped with them. There was also a redesign of the canopy to provide rain protection for all rows of the stand.

Construction of TQL Stadium began on December 18, 2018 with a groundbreaking ceremony. Pouring of the foundation began in July 2019, followed by steel erection work in November. In the spring of 2020, the upper bowl of the stadium was completed, and in the summer the canopy was ready. In the fall of 2020, the field was laid and the light board was installed. In the winter, the installation of chairs began, including one with the symbol of the winged lion Gary, chosen by fans. The facility was finally completed in spring 2021.

What are the features of the Cincinnati stadium?

The multimedia facade is certainly the most distinctive element of the stadium, especially since no MLS facility has had this feature before. More than 4 kilometers of LEDs are available to the arena's managers to display graphics, logos and lettering.

The interior of the facility is an almost continuous bowl covered by a roof. The layout is very compact, in the west the first row is already 4.6m from the pitch, and on the other three sides it is only a meter further away. The east and south stands are two-tiered, and the west stand contains the vast majority of the premium areas, which are located at different levels of this stand, from pitch level to the crown of the auditorium.

There are 53 private boxes for the wealthier visitors, 3 larger ones on the turf level (all the first rows of the west stand are given over to premium seats), and 2 large party boxes. In total, as many as 4,500 people can be in premium seats, or as much as 17% of the total audience - the most in MLS at the time of opening.

The single-level north stand, The Bailey, is the part of TQL Stadium for the club's most ardent fans, with standing room only seats and the widest screen in MLS above them. This stand can accommodate 3170 fans and is very steep, as its angle is 34 degrees.

The east side of the arena overlooks Over-the-Rhine, a historic German working-class neighborhood with numerous bars and small breweries. There, the grand staircase and the main spectator promenade overlook the aforementioned district.
