A record-breaking season

15,794,280 - that was the total number of spectators who watched EA Sports' La Liga and Hypermotion's La Liga games from the stands in the 2023/24 season. According to La Liga, that's 258,880 or 1.67% more fans than the previous season, and the Segunda games are not over yet. More than 11 million of the almost 16 million were tickets sold for Primera División matches.

Bernabeu’s domination

It is no surprise that Real Madrid dominates Primera División in terms of attendance. The 8 matches with the highest number of fans in the stands were played at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. The largest number of fans (76,732 according to Footy Stats) came for the encounter against Atlético Madrid, with an average of - according to Transfermarkt - 72,061 spectators per game. Both teams were the only ones to exceed one million tickets in the 2023/24 season - 1,369,162 at Los Blancos’ and 1,123,303 at Colchoneros’ games.

In second place was Cívitas Metropolitano, which averaged 59,121 spectators for Atlético Madrid's home games. The largest number of fans, 64,612, watched the game against Athletic Bilbao. The lowest place on the podium went to Real Betis, whose fans came in at 51,259 per game. The highest number watched the clash against Real Madrid from the stands, when 52,756 people were present at Benito Villamarín, according to Footy Stats.

Which fans filled the stadiums the best?

Real Madrid also came first in terms of stadium fill percentage, with 88.9%. In second place was Valencia, whose fans achieved a figure of 87.8% at Mestalla, one per mille more than Deportivo Alavés fans with 87.7% at Mendizorrotza. The low fill rate at FC Barcelona's stadium is also noteworthy, as Montjuïc, two times smaller than Spotify Camp Nou, was only 80.5% full, which caused a major blow to the Blaugrana's finances.

Getafe fans, on the other hand, fared worst, as Coliseum's average fill rate was just 68.2%. Mallorca RCD fans were not much better supporting their team, as the percentage at Son Moix was 68.3%. Third from last was Almería, as Power Horse Stadium was filled to an average of 70.3%.
