Al Fateh SC Stadium – stadium description
How did the redevelopment of Al Fateh SC stadium come about?
In June 2021, the Saudi Ministry of Sports announced a plan to develop three smaller stadiums in the country. Among them was a venue belonging to the Al Fateh SC team from the city of Al-Mubarraz, plus the stadiums of Al Shabab from Riyadh and Ettifaq Club from Dammam were also on the list.
What was the old Al Fateh SC stadium like?
Al Fateh SC Stadium opened in 2004, with an athletics track and a modest, partially covered stand on the west side capable of holding 3,500 spectators. Four floodlighting masts stood in the corners, and the surrounding area also included club buildings, training pitches and car parks.
Al Fateh SC was founded in 1958, and the club used to play in the lower divisions, but the team was promoted to the second division in 2008 and to the top division a year later. In 2013, the team won the national championship and the Super Cup. The club played its matches in professional competitions at Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium.
When did the redevelopment of Al Fateh SC Stadium take place?
Thanks to a decision by the Ministry of Sports, the complete redevelopment of the stadium began in September 2021. Completion of the reconstruction was initially set for July 2022, but eventually the opening had to wait until autumn 2023. The cost of the works amounted to 45 million rials.
When did the rebuilt Al Fateh SC stadium open?
The inauguration of the Al Fateh SC stadium after reconstruction took place on November 16, 2023, with a World Cup qualifying match between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan (4:0). The first league match in the new stadium was scheduled for November 25, 2023.
What did the redevelopment of Al Fateh SC stadium include?
The redevelopment plan was to change the character of the stadium to a football-specific one. The existing stand on the west side was retained, but underwent a major overhaul. The athletics track was removed and new stands were erected on the north, east and south sides. A completely new canopy was also built over the auditorium. With the redevelopment, the stadium has become the main venue for Al Fateh SC.
What does the Al Fateh SC stadium look like?
The stadium has a rectangular, football-specific layout. The main stand is situated on the west side. It is located some distance from the pitch and is also separated from the other stands. All stands are single tier and have been fitted with plastic seats, forming a mosaic made up of the colors associated with Al Fateh SC: green, white and blue. The capacity of the stadium is 11,000 spectators.
A uniform white membrane roof extends over all stands, despite the separation of the main stand. The roof does not extend to the lower rows of the auditorium. Four floodlighting masts have been erected behind the corners, and a video screen has been placed in one of the two unbuilt corners. Surrounding the stadium are club buildings, training pitches and car parks.
