Camp Nou’s rich history of Champions League finals

Camp Nou has previously hosted some of the most important matches in European club football. In 1989, the stadium staged the European Cup final in which AC Milan, coached by Arrigo Sacchi, defeated Steaua București 4–0. The stadium became even more iconic after the 1999 UEFA Champions League final, when Manchester United dramatically overturned the match against FC Bayern Munich, scoring twice in stoppage time to secure a 2–1 victory.

For both the club and the city, hosting another Champions League final would carry major sporting, financial and promotional significance. The new Spotify Camp Nou is intended to symbolise a new era for Barcelona and become one of the flagship venues on Europe’s sporting map. Hosting the final would also provide an opportunity to showcase the completed redevelopment to millions of supporters around the world.
