An unusual problem…

Mestalla, RCDE Stadium, the tiny Estadi Johan Cruyff, and even Wembley in London or Stade de France in Paris. These (and not only these) stadiums have been appearing in media reports in recent days as candidates to replace Camp Nou as El Clásico's venue, should work on the legendary stadium encounter further delays.

Due to the start of the concert season in May at Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc Barça could not count on its current home, causing the media to write on a daily basis about the backup plans being prepared by Laporta's team. However, all these options belong now to the past.

... an unusual solution

On Thursday, news broke that the Rolling Stones, who were scheduled to play at Montjuïc in May (an official announcement was still pending), had canceled the tour. The next day, Barcelona issued a statement announcing that the club had learned that the booking [...] will most likely not materialize, and that this turn of events opens the possibility of FC Barcelona playing their last La Liga match at the Estadi Olímpic. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club has already received approval for this from the city.

However, Barça assures that the main goal is to play end-of-season matches at the Spotify Camp Nou. Work is currently focused on erecting the metal skeleton of the third level of the stands and completing first two levels, but it's too early to say whether Turkish contractor Limak will be able to hand over the facility for El Clásico. The option of continuing to play at Montjuïc is therefore the perfect fallback for the management of Blaugrana, one which no one expected.
