Scotland: Opening not in 2025 after all? Decision on Dundee's new stadium Dundee City Council's decision to build a new stadium for Dundee FC has been unexpectedly delayed, raising concerns about the viability of plans to open the venue in 2025. The delay puts into question the ambitious plans of the club's managing director, John Nelms, and his colleagues.

Council decision delayed

Dundee City Council was due to decide on Camperdown Park at its next meeting, but the item has unexpectedly disappeared from the agenda. This delay could have serious implications for the future of the club and its plans for a new stadium.

Dundee City Council was due to give a decision on Dundee FC's plan for a new stadium at its next meeting, which was due to take place on Monday, August 12. The plan, eagerly awaited by the club's board and supporters, was due to receive the green light from the planning committee. The item has now been delayed, meaning that the application may not be considered until September 9, or in the worst case scenario, November.

Another problem

The delayed decision has caused concern among the club's governing body, including managing director John Nelms and co-owner Tim Keyes. Both stress that they will continue to work with the local authority to make the planning process as smooth as possible. In a statement released by their company, Dark Blue Property Holdings, they assured that despite the difficulties, they will continue to work on the stadium project.

The delay in the council's decision is just one of many problems Dundee FC is facing in terms of building a new stadium. In June, the club received feedback from the planning department which included details of public opposition to the plans. Of particular concern were issues relating to the use of land earmarked for a training facility. The club is hopeful that the new Riverside training facility proposal will resolve these issues and allow the plans at Camperdown Park to go ahead.

Despite the obstacles encountered, the club has already made some progress with the project. The former NCR building was demolished in May, paving the way for work to begin on the new stadium, which is expected to hold 12,500 spectators.

The club has announced that it will soon publish visuals of the new facility to keep up fan interest. Meanwhile, work is underway on a new FAQ section on the club's website to answer questions and address concerns about the project. The opening of Dundee FC's new stadium on schedule is getting further and further away.
