Italy: Works begin in San Donato. Important steps in construction of new stadium The realization of the new AC Milan stadium project in San Donato is becoming increasingly visible. The initial works on the site where the stadium is to be built have commenced. Information has also emerged about the signing of an agreement with the first program partner for the stadium's construction.

Ongoing cleanup

According to Il Giorno, following the start of cleanup operations on the future stadium site, significant progress can also be seen in the revitalization of abandoned areas where two gas stations and a fast-food restaurant once stood. These structures were demolished in recent years, and the area was cleaned and fenced off. However, this did not prevent the creation of illegal waste dumps and the appearance of homeless encampments.

Nevertheless, the area where aMcDrive once stood remains chaotic. Although all the buildings have been demolished, heaps of trash are still present. One thing is certain: the land has been purchased, the project is ready, and the main cleanup has started and is ongoing.

Program Agreement taking shape

FS Sistemi Urbani is the first partner of the program agreement regarding the stadium's construction. In recent days, the leading company of the Urban Railway Hub positively responded to the invitation that the mayor extended in mid-April to the Lombardy region, the metropolitan area of Milan, and various companies of the FS Italiane Group and Sportlifecity.

We are pleased to welcome you declares Francesco Squeri, the mayor of San Donato, this is the first guest at the Program Agreement table. We hope to soon receive responses from other parties with whom we have had discussions, to assess the merits of the project and define the project, economic, and operational commitments for the overall development of our city and the entire area south of Milan.

AC Milan firmly rejects mayor's allegations

Two stadiums so close together cannot coexist, said Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan and the metropolitan area, quoted by Corriere della Sera. He thereby rejects the possibility of building two new facilities by Inter and AC Milan in San Donato and Rozzano. Sala argues that such a solution would lead to traffic and safety issues and would negatively impact agricultural areas like the Southern Park.

AC Milan's response was swift. The club published a comprehensive statement refuting the mayor's words. As repeatedly stated, the area intended for the stadium construction is not part of the South Milan Agricultural Park, it is not green space, but currently abandoned and degraded land. According to the San Donato municipality plan, Sportlifecity (a company controlled by AC Milan, the landowner) is working with the police and the municipality to reclaim the entire area and make it safe. [...] The project does not conflict with the potential construction of Inter's new stadium in Rozzano. The distance between the two facilities is 13 km in a straight line (18 km by car), while in London, for example, there are eight stadiums built at much shorter distances, the press release states.
