Italy: Crucial time for San Siro’s future. Renovation project will soon be revealed During the recent Football Festival held in Parma, one of the guests was the CEOl of Inter Milan, Alessandro Antonello. He emphasized the importance of pushing forward with the project for the Nerazzurri's own stadium. However, the topic of the future of San Siro, which has been causing concern for Milan’s authorities for some time, was also discussed.

City authorities still hopeful

By the end of June, a meeting will be held between the authorities of Milan, Inter, and the city of Milan to present the final project and data from the study conducted by WeBuild on San Siro. The most probable option is to limit the stadium's capacity to around 30,000 seats during the renovation, compared to the average attendance of about 50,000 - 60,000 people. This is too little to consider staying and playing there for 2/3 of the duration of the investment, considering that ticket sales revenues exceed €20 million, said Alessandro Antonello.

Both clubs will assess whether the documentation regarding the new stadium convinces them, also in comparison to the two projects started in Rozzano and San Donato. So far, both Milan and Inter have been skeptical about the idea of renovating San Siro, but the city authorities hope that after seeing the visualizations, their attitude will change. Regardless of whether it is San Siro or Rozzano, building a new stadium has become an absolute priority. Inter knows this and does not want to go beyond the end of 2024 as the date to choose between Plan A and Plan B, reports calciomercato.

Will the goal be achieved?

Time is now shorter than ever, also due to the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games and the stadium’s bid to host the Champions League final in 2027. Additionally, Milan would like to host matches of the 2032 European Championship.

We are at an advanced stage. Of course, we are not working on the final project but on the preliminary one, and it is almost ready. If everything goes well, we can start work in the summer of 2025. The first phase could be completed by the end of 2025, the second in 2026, and the last in 2027, said WeBuild General Director Massimo Ferrari, quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
