The construction of the new Sandecja stadium is taking longer than anyone could have predicted. Finally, however, after many months of various disruptions, it seems that the investment is heading towards a happy ending. According to information recently provided by the city authorities, the facility will be ready later this year.

Time for acceptance

2024 is the year when this facility will be handed over for use, stated Deputy Mayor Artur Bochenek during a press briefing, overseeing all municipal investments. Further stages are already underway

The contract has been signed with the contractor for the transformer station works, Nowy Sącz has been selected for this task. They will perform foundation work under the columns, concrete filling, and insulation of the bolts securing the steel structure.namely Instal Electric. The cost of the ongoing works exceeds 400,000 PLN, and the time for completing the contracted works is 30 days. The city is still awaiting two more tender proceedings, after which the construction costs of the facility can be estimated more accurately, but it is already known that it will be around 100 million PLN.

The stadium turf has already been accepted and can be used. Officials emphasize that the arena is about 85% complete. The facility will have 8,111 seats, meet UEFA Category III standards, and will be suitable for international matches.

Who holds copyright?

However, there is also a dispute over the copyright to the Sandecja stadium's new project. The former investment contractor, with whom the city terminated the contract, issued a statement to the media. In the statement, they accuse the city of conducting partial finishing works on the stadium unlawfully. Blackbird company president Jan Kos maintains that they exclusively own the project's rights. This statement is a reaction to the words of Deputy Mayor Artur Bochenek of Nowy Sącz, who recently asserted that the copyright issue regarding the project is settled.

Let me reiterate once again that we truly possess full copyright to this facility. This has been confirmed by the legal opinion of a doctor habilitated from the Jagiellonian University. We have never considered this a controversy. We knew we had the rights, they were paid for, and everything was executed in accordance with the provisions and terms of the contract, Deputy Mayor Artur Bochenek said.

However, the former contractor attached a copy of a letter from the city's company to the project authors, requesting the acquisition of copyright. According to the Blackbird president, this action by the city acknowledges that they do not have full rights to the project.
