Italy: Extended deadline for land acquisition in Rozzano. What's next for San Siro? What future awaits Inter? Expansion of San Siro or an entirely new chapter in Rozzano? This has been a topic occupying the minds of many in Milan for quite some time. Mayor Gianni Ferretti of Rozzano, in conversation with Calciomercato.it, shared important insights on this matter.

Buying more time

According to Mayor Ferretti, Inter has managed to secure an agreement from the Cabassi group to extend the exclusivity agreement regarding the purchase of land where the club intends to build its new stadium. The previous agreement was set to expire on April 30, 2024. However, a new deadline has been agreed upon, now set for January 31, 2025.

There is certainly a bit more hope, commented for the Italian online magazine Gianni Ferretti, who is also preparing for local elections scheduled for early June. As a result of the commitments made, an extension has been obtained. However, on the other hand, we all know that June 30 is the deadline by which Webuild should present the feasibility study for the renovation of San Siro. At that point, both Inter and Milan will have to decide whether to remain at their current stadium or to continue on the path outlined. After this deadline, everyone will know how the situation regarding both teams' stadiums will unfold. Mayor Ferretti also expressed hope that if the stadium is built, a UEFA Champions League final could be held there in the near future.

Or perhaps San Siro after all?

Today there are two paths for San Siro, said Giuseppe Sala, the Mayor of Milan, during a presentation at Linate Airport. It's worth recalling that not long ago, the Regional Administrative Court of Lombardy confirmed the existence of cultural constraints on Meazza, effectively meaning that this facility cannot be completely demolished.

The revitalization of the stadium is the only possible path. This ruling is another step towards acknowledging that San Siro cannot be torn down. There are two possibilities: either we manage to convince both teams to revitalize it, which would be a victory for us, or, the stadium may evolve into a facility that loses some of its current role.
