Rumors are swirling that the current name, Sports Authority Field at Mile High, could soon be undergoing a name change as Sports Authority deals with bankruptcy. On Tuesday, Sports Authority announced it will have to sell assets after failing to reach an agreement with creditors.

Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb has long supported the idea to keep the stadium named "Mile High."

"With the pending bankruptcy of Sports Authority, it's time to preserve a Mile High tradition by permanently keeping 'Mile High' in any new naming of the stadium," State Rep. Dan Pabon said.

"Taxpayers don't ask much of the Denver Broncos, and preserving the history and tradition of the name is an important one to Broncos fans everywhere."

HB 1455, which has bipartisan support, is expected to be formally assigned to a house committee on Wednesday where it will await debate. The measure also increases the number of board members of the Metropolitan Football Stadium District from nine to 11. Sports Authority's next installment deadline to pay for and keep the naming rights is the end of July.
