The nearly 70,000-capacity historic Ferenc Puskas Stadium in Budapest sees its last months. In February removal of all demountable equipment began. This includes all seats, the fate of which is yet to be decided upon.

In recent days also heavy machinery arrived on the site to begin demolition of the stadium and its surrounding infrastructure. Workers have 8 months to make the old giant disappear, with deadline set for October 5, 2016.

Good news for those in love with the place’s identity is that the historic stadium will live within its successor. Almost 90% of the rubble will be reused in new concrete structure of the 68,000-large new stadium. Also, the historic facades are to be incorporated in the much taller new building, which will be completed in 2019.
