Ukraine’s superpower will play the next home game in Odessa. After the fixture Shakhtar may relocate all of its games from Lviv to Odessa.
Shakhtar Donetsk played their entire 2014/15 season in “exile”, at Arena Lviv. The club signed a contract with the stadium’s operator until year end. However, the Friday fixture against Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk will be played at Odessa’s Stadion Chernomorets.
That same venue will most likely play host to Shakhtar’s Champions League play-off against Rapid Wien (Aug 25). According to local reporters in Odessa, following the Friday’s game it may even be decided that Shakhtar will play all home games in Odessa instead of Lviv.
Stadion Chernomorets already serves as league home to Chernomorets, however stadium operator already confirmed the field would surely withstand more intensive use, should a second tenant arrive.
Shakhtar cannot play home games in Donetsk due to unstable situation in the Donbass region. Tonight the club addressed this speculation, confirming domestic games will regularly be played outside Lviv, however not necessarily only in Odessa. The team may become more of a "traveller" across Ukraine. Only Champions League fixtures, should the team advance forward, will remain in Lviv.
