New design: Kuban Stadion It’s supposed to intimidate away teams by its very form, not only by Russia’s biggest attendance. Will this aim be achieved? So far English architects have presented their early renderings of what may be FK Kuban’s new stadium.

Though it’s already referred to as Kuban Stadion, it has nothing to do with the existing Kuban Stadion. The current ground is located in the city centre, while new one is to be located in northern Krasnodar.

What suggests using the same name is primary use – by FK Kuban. Due to FK Krasnodar building their own stadium and FIFA not shortlisting the city for 2018 World Cup, Kuban will be the very single user for day-to-day activities at the new stadium.

The club enjoying Russia’s largest attendances in recent years will receive stands of 45,000 that are thought to pile up over away players, creating an intimidating atmosphere even before the chanting starts. Spectators are to be as close to the field as possible, both in the lower and upper sections.

Outside the stadium is also hoped to create a dynamic and dramatic form, which is signaled already by these early renderings. However, since AFL Architects have been awarded the design contract only in July 2013, the images attached should not be treated as final.
