CONMEBOL, the South American football authority, gave its verdict over the January accident at Grêmio Arena. The host club will have to play without standing terrace at their next Copa Libertadores game.

Also, a fine of $35,000 has been set along with threat of the entire new stadium being closed if anything else happens within the next two years.

As a reminder, the accident from Jan 30 caused several people to fall into the concrete moat in front of northern stand as others ran down in the traditional ‘avalanche’ goal celebration. 7 people were slightly injured when steel barrier gave way. Exact causes and safety measures to be applied are yet to be determined.
