Estadio de Aguas Calientes – stadium description

The modest stadium in the town of Machupicchu (Machupicchu Pueblo) is one of the most interestingly located sports facilities in the world. The town itself lies in the narrow valley of the Urubamba River, surrounded by steep, forested slopes of the Andes. This natural setting creates a unique scenery.

The stadium is squeezed into dense and rather chaotic buildings. It has an artificial turf pitch with several small stands on both sides.

Machupicchu – better known as Aguas Calientes – developed in the late 1920s when the railway line was built. Today, it is a tourist center visited by travelers coming to see the famous Machu Picchu, the most recognizable icon of the Inca Empire, located just a few kilometers away.
