When was Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium built?
The design of a modern stadium for the Sulaibikhat SC was shown in 2019, and in 2020 the authorities approved its construction. Construction work began in 2021, and the project cost was 13 million Kuwaiti dinars.
The stadium was built to replace the former Sulaibikhat Stadium, a modest facility with a gravel athletics track and small stands on the west side. It was surrounded by training fields, a sports hall and an indoor swimming pool. When construction of the new stadium began, a new shopping center was also being built right next door.
The new stadium, along with Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, has been designated to host the 26th Gulf Cup, to be held in Kuwait in late 2024 and early 2025.
When was Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium opened?
The new Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium was inaugurated on December 11, 2024, by the Minister of Information, Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, as well as the head of the organizing committee for the 26th Gulf Cup, Abdulrahman Baddah Al-Mutairi. Many other high-ranking officials were present at the opening, and the inauguration took place shortly before the Gulf Cup, which begins on December 21.
A few days after the opening, on December 15, 2024, the stadium hosted its first test match, in which the hosts, Sulaibikhat SC, tied 2–2 with the current national champion, Kuwait SC.
