Nu Stadium is already hosting MLS matches, but its immediate surroundings are still changing rapidly. The venue has been equipped with extensive digital infrastructure, while Miami Freedom Park is set to gain new public-use facilities in the coming years.

Stadium at heart of a major development

Nu Stadium opened in April 2026 as the new permanent home of Inter Miami CF. With a capacity of 26,700, the stadium was built near Miami International Airport within the expanding Miami Freedom Park development. For the club, co-owned by Jorge and Jose Mas and David Beckham, it marks an important step after years spent at the temporary Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The new venue is the centrepiece of a project valued at approximately $1 billion. However, Freedom Park is intended to become much more than a stadium district. The completed development is expected to include around 1 million sq ft (approximately 92,900 sq m) of retail, dining and office space, 750 hotel rooms, and a 58-acre (approximately 23.5-hectare) park with public sports fields. The main construction works are scheduled for completion in spring 2028.

Stadium for digital age

One of the most significant additions at Nu Stadium is the advanced telecommunications infrastructure provided by Boldyn Networks, MLS’s official connectivity partner. The system includes high-density Wi-Fi 7, a distributed antenna system (DAS), IPTV, audio systems and a shared fibre network supporting broadcasts, IT systems and mobile connectivity.

More than 600 Wi-Fi and cellular access points operate across the stadium and the wider Freedom Park site. This is particularly important during Inter Miami matches, when thousands of fans simultaneously use smartphones, club apps, mobile tickets, cashless payments and video services.

Supporters are expected to benefit from high-speed internet access, in-seat food ordering and interactive content. The network has also been designed to support AR and VR features, which may expand the matchday experience with statistics and additional digital content.

The infrastructure is not limited to fan services. Thousands of operational devices are connected to the network, including surveillance systems, cameras, lighting, speakers and building-management systems. IoT platforms are intended to help stadium operators analyse crowd movements, coordinate staff and respond to safety-related situations in real time.

The venue also includes extensive broadcast cabling and more than 200 screens, allowing supporters to follow the action from concourses, food-and-beverage areas and hospitality spaces.

Technology as a service

The deployment was delivered through a Technology as a Service model. Boldyn Networks financed the initial construction of the digital infrastructure and will subsequently operate, maintain and develop it. For the stadium’s owners, this means lower upfront costs and the possibility of updating the technology without requiring further major capital investments.

Bridge for matchday access

Transport remains one of the major challenges around the new venue. The stadium stands next to the airport and near the Grapeland Heights neighbourhood, which may experience heavier road traffic on matchdays. Miami therefore secured $20 million in federal funding for the Safe Access Pedestrian Connector Project.

The planned pedestrian bridge, measuring approximately 1,450 ft (about 442 m), will link Miami Freedom Park with the airport transport hub, including the Metrorail station. It is intended to make access to the stadium easier for supporters arriving by public transport and, in the future, for visitors to Miami’s new civic centre. Mayor Eileen Higgins said that “this $20 million federal investment helps us improve safety, expand access to transit, and build a more connected Miami.

Nu Stadium is ready to host events, but key elements of Freedom Park are still under construction. One of them is Miami’s eight-storey civic centre, for which a $193 million construction permit has been issued. The building is expected to accommodate the offices of the mayor, commissioners and municipal departments.
