Benito Villamarín is entering a new phase, with construction beginning after demolition. However, the project goes beyond the stadium itself, extending to a broader transformation of its surroundings. What will this metamorphosis look like?

Foundation excavation and surroundings' metamorphosis
The schedule assumes starting groundwork just before the start of the traditional Andalusian Feria de Abril. First, the contractor will focus on preparatory work, which includes fencing the construction site and earthworks. The key step at this stage will be pouring the concrete diaphragm wall. This crucial structural element requires time, because after pouring the mixture, it is necessary to wait several weeks for the material to cure and reach its maximum hardness and target strength parameters. A stable foundation will allow for a safe transition to the next phases of the project.
The changes planned by the architects will not be limited only to the structure of Benito Villamarín itself. The project envisions a large-scale revitalization of the adjacent area, which will gain additional public utility functions. In the place of the current excavations, a multi-level underground parking lot will eventually be built. Just above it, the construction of a modern multifunctional building, integrated with the main sports facility, is planned. The whole complex will be complemented by an accessible public square, designed to facilitate movement around the stands on match days.

Roof optimization and budget
Acciona has become the general contractor responsible for the entire task, as the Andalusian club's authorities announced a few weeks ago. The cooperation with this entity brought a revision of the original concept, which allowed for cost rationalization. The roof design will change – the new structure will be more functional and based on modern building techniques, guaranteeing savings without any compromises on quality.
The details of these arrangements were explained by Vice President José Miguel López Catalán: We have commissioned Acciona to carry out all the works, optimizing the type of roofing and facade, which allows the project to be completed for the price of 170 million euros, which is exactly what we wanted.
The completion of the works and the handover of the fully modernized facility are scheduled for May 2028.
