1C License for Spotify Camp Nou now in FC Barcelona’s hands

The city authorities of Barcelona have granted FC Barcelona the first-use license for the next phase of the Spotify Camp Nou modernization. The decision covers Phase 1C of the works carried out as part of the Espai Barça project and allows a significant increase in stadium capacity. From now on, the stadium can host around 62,000 spectators, whereas the previous limit was approximately 45,000 seats.

This represents an increase of about 17,000 available seats. The new stands will surround the pitch much more fully, improving both the match-day atmosphere and the visual appearance of the stadium. The new capacity already exceeds half of the target number of seats, which the stadium is expected to reach upon completion of the full modernization. In its final version, Spotify Camp Nou will be able to accommodate up to around 104,000 spectators.

The granting of the new license also allows fans access to the northern section of the stadium, known as Gol Nord. This stand has been ready for several months but could not be opened to the public earlier due to formal restrictions related to technical inspections. With city approval, the club can finally use this part of the stadium for matches, completing the seating layout and allowing fans to occupy seats around almost the entire pitch.

The new capacity limit will be used for one of the upcoming league matches when FC Barcelona hosts Sevilla FC. This game will be among the first events held with the increased number of spectators since the start of the stadium redevelopment.

Grada 1957 at Spotify Camp Nou as a future fan stand

The new license also allows for the potential opening of a dedicated supporters’ stand known as Grada 1957. Located in the southern section of the stadium, directly in front of the Gol Sud, it is planned to become the main zone for the most passionate FC Barcelona supporters responsible for organizing chants and atmosphere during matches. The stand can hold around 1,200 people.

For now, the club has not confirmed whether these seats will be available for the next league match. Logistical issues and the short time between receiving the license and organizing the next game are the main reasons.
