Spain: Valencia fans will not travel to Coliseum. The away section will remain closed Valencia CF has informed its supporters that it will not have an allocation of tickets for the away section for the league match against Getafe CF. The match is scheduled for Sunday, 18 January, at 14:00 at the Coliseum stadium. What is the reason behind this decision?

Redevelopment of the Coliseum closes the away section

Getafe have stated that the construction works currently taking place at the Coliseum make it impossible to separate and open a designated area for visiting fans. In practice, this means that there is no infrastructure meeting the required safety standards for away supporters, which has forced the home club to abandon the distribution of tickets for Valencia fans. The authorities of Valencia CF officially confirmed this information, emphasizing that the club did not receive any ticket allocation for its supporters and will not conduct ticket sales for the match.

As a result of this decision, Valencia fans will not be able to attend the match as part of an official away section. The club has appealed to supporters to exercise caution and reminded them that purchasing tickets in other parts of the stadium is done at their own risk and is subject to the regulations set by the home club. For the team from Mestalla, the lack of organized away support may be noticeable, especially in the context of the fight for league points at a traditionally demanding venue such as Getafe’s stadium.

This is not the first time this season that Valencia CF have had to deal with a lack of away tickets for their supporters. In December, during the match against Rayo Vallecano, an official away section was also not made available. On that occasion, many Valencia fans purchased tickets individually and gathered in one part of the stadium in Vallecas, supporting the team despite the restrictions.

Getafe stadium and ticketing issues affecting other clubs as well

As Spanish media point out, the situation at the Coliseum has recently affected other teams too. One example is Levante UD, whose supporters also did not receive tickets for an away match against Getafe. The redevelopment of Getafe CF’s stadium is therefore clearly impacting the organization of league matches and the presence of visiting fans.

At this stage, it is not known how long the restrictions related to the redevelopment will last. What is certain, however, is that until the works are completed, more clubs will have to expect similar difficulties when visiting the Coliseum.
