396 more seats to conquer Europe

There were going to be 500 seats in four rows, but finally the provisional stand, already installed at Balaídos, has 396 seats divided between three levels. The interesting thing is its proximity to the pitch: it is only 5 metres from the playing area. In this way, Celta Vigo will try to alleviate the disappearance of the Gol stand due to the ongoing reconstruction... and the lack of goals, as in the three home games so far this season they have only scored three times, all of them in the Marcador End.

As the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, had told us, Celta got the go-ahead from UEFA to use the stand in the Europa League, a decision that is very unusual. The European body usually vetoes the use of temporal structures, something that already happened to Girona’s Montilivi last season.

Celta fans will inaugurate the stand precisely in the Europa League, against PAOK, on October 2. With the new stand and the recently installed seats in Marcador and Rio stands, the capacity of Balaídos will be 22,894 spectators from that match onwards.
