Morocco: Key stage of works completed at Grand Stade de Tanger A few days ago, one of the most important phases of the comprehensive modernization of the Grand Stade de Tanger was completed, as the venue prepares to host matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Most challenging roof stage finished

The final steel element was installed on the roof structure, with the national flag placed at its top — a symbolic gesture marking the success of the entire operation. This officially closed the most difficult stage of the works, which lasted 66 days from June 15 and involved the installation of 60 prefabricated steel components. Despite occasional technical interruptions caused by the strong sharqi wind, the project is progressing according to schedule.

According to technical data, the new roof of the Grand Stade de Tanger will cover more than 45,000 square meters, equivalent to 4.5 hectares. It will be made of special coated fabrics, making it the second largest stadium roof of this type in the world, after King Fahd Sports City.

Next stages of construction

At the same time, work is being carried out on the installation of the rainwater drainage system and the application of synthetic coatings that will form the stadium’s final roofing layer. The modernization also includes the reconstruction of interior spaces and the development of technical infrastructure, ensuring that the stadium in Tangier will meet all requirements for hosting the world’s most prestigious football tournaments.
