Italy: Attendance at Serie A stadiums in the 2024/2025 season Serie A is experiencing a resurgence in stadium attendance not seen in decades. In the recently concluded 2024/25 season, Italy’s top division recorded an average crowd of 30,842 spectators per match, making it one of the best-attended campaigns in the league’s history.

Milan leading the way

The total attendance surpassed 11.7 million, with stadiums in many cities nearly full to capacity. This marks a continuation of a trend that began in the 2022/23 season, when fans returned en masse following the pandemic-related restrictions. The biggest beneficiaries of this surge have been the Milan clubs – Inter and AC Milan. Despite plans to leave their shared stadium, both clubs still play at the legendary San Siro, drawing the league’s largest crowds. AC Milan finished the season with an average attendance of over 71,000, with Inter close behind at more than 70,000. Roma also boasted strong numbers, with over 62,000 fans on average at the Stadio Olimpico, while Napoli's stadium was filled to over 90% of its 54,000-plus capacity.

Impressive occupancy and fair ticket pricing

Interestingly, some of the highest occupancy rates were recorded not by the biggest clubs but by smaller sides with devoted local fan bases. Cagliari, Frosinone, and Atalanta regularly reached over 90% stadium capacity, despite having smaller venues. This demonstrates that passionate support and local identity can be just as powerful as big-name players in drawing crowds.

The rise in attendance has been driven not only by sporting excitement but also by organizational efforts. Clubs have upgraded stadium infrastructure, with Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Udinese among those investing in modernization. Ticketing policy has also played a key role. While prices in top clubs like Juventus, Inter, and Roma can reach €70–90 in some sections, many teams keep prices accessible for local fans. At venues such as the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Arechi in Salerno, or Stadio Castellani in Empoli, single-match tickets often start at just €10–15, while full-season passes in lower categories can cost under €200.

Many clubs have also introduced attractive discounts for families, students, and seniors, broadening their audience base. In cities like Rome and Florence, last-minute promotions and bundled ticket packages for several matches have become common, giving fans cheaper options without requiring a full-season commitment. Additionally, clubs in southern Italy frequently adopt flexible pricing, adjusting rates depending on the opponent and matchday.

Serie A’s attendance boom in recent seasons shows that Italian football has not only regained its former glory but is also drawing in new generations of fans. In an age dominated by digital streaming and social media, the stadium experience and collective emotion of live matches have once again become a cherished part of the game. Italians are proving that even in an era of globalization and commercialization, passion and club loyalty remain the beating heart of football.
