England: AFC Bournemouth reveals plans to expand Vitality Stadium AFC Bournemouth aims to complete the Vitality Stadium expansion by the start of the 2026/27 season. The biggest change will be a new south stand replacing the current temporary structure. Its capacity will jump from 2,337 to around 7,000 seats.

New modular stand and better accessibility for fans

The new south stand will be a single tier with a gap in the middle to significantly boost seating for fans with disabilities. The stand will be built off-site and then assembled on location in a modular way, speeding up construction time. The club plans to start work right after the 2025/26 season ends and has asked the league to schedule the last game away and the next season’s opener also away, giving extra weeks for the build. The goal is to avoid disrupting the fixtures despite the short off-season.

The modular construction method, inspired by similar ideas considered by clubs like Manchester United, allows cranes on both sides of Vitality Stadium to quickly install parts. This means preparatory work and steel frame assembly behind the existing stand can begin even during the current season.

New stadium layout and interior upgrades

Replacing the temporary stand, the new south stand is the biggest transformation planned. Half of it will have an elevated section with spots for fans with reduced mobility, reflecting club owner Bill Foley’s accessibility focus. The stand will feature two concourse levels — upper and lower — though not a traditional two-tier structure.

To fit the larger stand, the stadium fence and the path behind the stand will be moved in coordination with local authorities. The current media zone will also be relocated. At the same time, internal upgrades will start in the east and main stands. Offices and other spaces moved to the new training center will be converted into hospitality areas. These works will begin soon, as they don’t require planning permission and can proceed during the season.

North and east stand expansions — next steps

After finishing the south stand and corners, the north and east stands will be raised by about five meters. The north stand expansion will add around 1,200 seats, the east about 1,700 — significantly increasing general admission capacity. The club is working with local companies and experienced stadium contractors. Efforts are also underway to minimize the project’s environmental impact and make the stadium more sustainable.
