Spain: Demolition work advances at Getafe’s Coliseum Although the spotlight in Getafe is focused on rumours of a possible takeover of the club by Liverpool's owners, work at the Coliseum is progressing. Demolition work has already begun on part of the stands.

Demolition begins

Just two weeks have passed since the start of work at the Coliseum and the upper part of the Fondo Sur (South End) has disappeared. A single crane - as can be seen in the images recorded by Mundo Deportivo - has entered the works after the seats in the sector had been dismantled and in just a few days demolished almost the entire structure.

In an interview with Marca, Getafe president Ángel Torres announced that the works will be divided into three phases, with the first one covering the south and side of the stadium. However, as he promises, at no time will the capacity be less than 10,000 seats.

The end of the works will come between the end of 2027 and the beginning of 2028. Since then Azulones’ temple will have a capacity of 19,500 fans, a modern façade, a complete roof and a VIP offer expanded to 69 boxes. If nothing goes wrong, of course.
