France: Attendance at Ligue 1 stadiums in the 2024/25 season To no one's surprise, PSG have once again won the French league title, ousting the competition. But the Parisians succumbed to their league rivals in both the category of the number of fans in the stands and the filling of the stadium.

Parisians reign on the pitch and Olympians in the stands

Six rounds before the end of the Ligue 1 competition the PSG secured once again the title. The Paris team's hegemony in the last decade had only been broken twice - by AS Monaco in 2016/17 and by Lille four years later. But in the fight for the biggest crowd the Rouge-et-Bleu don't stand a chance, at least not until they make the dream of a 90,000-seater a reality.

And that's because Olympique Marseille, playing at Vélodrome, were cheered on by an average of 63,683 fans. Olympique Lyonnais were accompanied at Groupama Stadium by a crowd of 50,621 fans. Meanwhile, the capacity of Parc des Princes, where the Parisians play, reaches 48,583 seats in the football configuration, and almost as many fans - 47,676 - came to the capital team's matches, making it ranked 3rd in the standings.

But despite filling the stadium at 98.1%, PSG also encountered a stronger rival in this category, or rather an even more faithful audience. RC Lens fans filled 99.2% of the seats at Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Free seats were also a rarity at Stade de la Meinau (96.2%) due to the ongoing redevelopment, similarly to Stade Francis-Le Blé (95.1%) and Vélodrome (94.5%).

The opposite case is AS Monaco, which plays in front of the smallest audience. Stade Louis II was attended by an average of 9,360 people this season, which is just half the capacity of the stadium. However, if you were to look at it from another perspective, this is an absolutely record-breaking number, as the club was gathering ¼ of the population of its country – the Principality of Monaco – in the stands!
