Spain: Zaragoza’s temporary stadium nearing completion after 5 months The construction of Mini Romareda, Real Zaragoza’s temporary stadium, is almost complete. Located in the Parking Norte area of the Actur district, the venue will host the club's matches for the next two seasons while the historic La Romareda undergoes full reconstruction. The new stadium broke ground just five months ago and is expected to be finished by early June.

Rapid progress thanks to modular technology

The project is being carried out by Nussli Iberia in collaboration with MLN, using modular construction technology to speed up the process. According to Nussli’s general manager, Lluís Herrero, the modular system ensures not only speed, but also flexibility and cost-efficiency. All four stands have already been installed. Final seating and finishing works are underway, with the majority of the seats in blue, featuring the club’s name spelled out in white. The stadium will accommodate over 20,000 spectators, including 36 accessible seats for fans with disabilities, each allowing for an accompanying person.

All construction materials are already on-site, and the natural grass pitch—grown by Royalverd—will arrive from Cáceres in refrigerated rolls to be laid last. The field will feature a full irrigation system, and goal dimensions will reflect La Romareda’s original proportions.

Facilities and fan experience

The stadium will offer comprehensive infrastructure including locker rooms, anti-doping control, a press room, hospitality zones, food and beverage stands, restrooms, a medical point, and a merchandise area. A VIP box with foldable premium seats will be located near the Preferente stand. Commentary booths have been installed, and work is underway on camera towers and the VAR system, with special foundations meeting LaLiga’s stability requirements.

Engineering and safety

Mini Romareda is built with aluminum structures anchored with Krinner micropiles – large screw-like foundations commonly used in alpine ski venues and Formula 1 races, such as the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The stands are reinforced with additional beams and color-coded parts to ease assembly.

Due to budget constraints, the stadium will not feature a roof, but four 11-meter-high corner towers will be erected to reduce wind impact and enhance acoustics. A scoreboard will be placed in one corner, and emergency vehicle access gates will be integrated into two others.

Fans will be just three meters from the pitch, creating an intimate and intense atmosphere. The steep, vertical stands will place spectators almost on top of the action, enhancing support for the players. Entry to the stadium will be through a dedicated fan zone, equipped with security gates, food outlets, and service points — aiming to deliver a safe and enjoyable matchday experience.
