Workers at the Grand Stade de Tangier have reached a milestone in the expansion of the stadium. They did it at an express pace, which the region's governor decided to recognise, so instead of working, the workers feasted on the construction site last weekend.

The redevelopment of Grand Stade de Tanger has been five years in the making, but it is getting closer to completion. After modifications in the design - made after Morocco was announced as host of the 2030 World Cup - the stadium will seat 75,000 fans, making it the second largest stadium in the country after Grand Stade Hassan II.
But the auditorium expansion is not the only change coming to the stadium in Tangier. The venue will get a modern facade and a roof that will protect the entire stands from sun and rain. Iit is precisely the work on the roofing, or rather its scaffolding, that has become a milestone of the expansion. The 1,200 workers on site managed, with the help of 70-metre cranes, to erect the skeleton of the roof in just four days.

The pace of the work was recognised by the governor of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, Younès Tazi, who on Saturday, May 17, invited the workers to a feast in front of the stadium, where couscous, a dish for Moroccans as traditional as it is symbolic, awaited them. This gesture, perceived as motivation through appreciation, is particularly important as the workers face a really busy schedule. In seven months, the Africa Cup of Nations will kick off and the Grand Stade de Tanger will host six matches of the tournament, including the semi-final clash.
