The contract, awarded under the Southern Construction Framework, involves a comprehensive modernization of the 50-meter swimming and diving pool, improvements to indoor infrastructure, outdoor sports fields, and the athletics stadium.
Opened in 1964, the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre Athletics Stadium comprises an athletics stadium, sports hall, swimming and diving pools, a large gym, and various other indoor and outdoor sports facilities.
Morgan Sindall will immediately begin the preparatory phase ahead of construction, which includes submitting detailed planning and listed building consent applications. Construction is planned to start in the second half of 2025, with completion expected by 2028. The project is particularly complex due to the fact that the 60-year-old building housing the pools and indoor facilities is Grade II listed, requiring renovation in line with heritage conservation guidelines.
Richard Dobson, Regional Director at Morgan Sindall Construction in London, stated: We are delighted to have been chosen to deliver this project, as the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is an iconic venue cherished by the local community and a vital part of the nation's sporting heritage.
