Vigo has said goodbye to the iconic spiral staircase between the Gol stand and the "new" Balaídos. The next step will be the demolition of Gol itself, which looks empty inside and naked outside.

The "old" Balaídos bids farewell
At the beginning of 2027 Vigo will finish the complete reconstruction of Estadio de Balaídos. By then, the celestes temple will have 27,000 seats, a uniform roof and a sky-blue façade. That is, if the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, does not manage to get the city on the list of venues for the 2030 World Cup. In that case, the Tribuna stand would have to be rebuilt again to become a two-storey stadium.
But before the work is finished, and before Vigo is possibly proclaimed a World Cup city, the Gol stand will be completely demolished. In the last part of the old
Balaídos, the demolition of the interior has already been completed, and its façade, made of concrete and brick, looks naked.
In the coming weeks the demolition of the structure of Gol will begin, but for the time being work continues on the exterior. In the last few days, workers proceeded to demolish the iconic spiral staircase. Of the structure, which appeared on the Rio stand with the renovation for the 1982 World Cup, only the base remains. Its twin, on the opposite side of the stand, has already been demolished with the construction of Marcador in 2021.
