Scotland: Activists call for Camperdown Park to be blocked to protect nature Plans to build a stadium for Dundee FC, are stirring up negative emotions in the local community. Residents and volunteers from the Campy Growers community garden are calling on the city council to reject the proposals in order to protect unique natural habitats.

Conflict between infrastructure development and nature conservation

While the developers assure that the development will have a negligible impact on the environment, some residents are expressing serious concerns about the degradation of local wildlife. Leslie Martin, one of the Campy Growers volunteers, points out that the area is rich in biodiversity. It’s awash with biodiversity. That is the tragedy of what will be lost. Developers don’t see things like that. Hundreds of little holes where mammals, like voles and shrews live, birds and insects. Families use this as a recreation field. They are the ones who are most horrified. They bring their children and grandchildren to play and run their dogs around. I haven’t met very many people who think it will be wonderful to have steel and concrete there says Martin.

This is yet another example of how progress has its pros and cons – some benefit, while others lose out. However, in the digital world, pace matters, and the best solutions are always within reach. You can instantly find best casino sites, offering top-quality gaming experiences along with expert reviews that objectively assess the pros and cons of selected online casinos.

Ian Michael Ford, a guide and volunteer involved in conservation at Camperdown Park, warns that the project could adversely affect the site's delicate ecosystem. According to him, the planned development means noise, increased traffic and an increase in pets that could disturb wildlife. My aim is to respect the heritage of the site, the ecosystem created by ancient trees, which the councillors have protected themselves Ford stresses.

Developers' arguments

Dark Blue Property Holdings Ltd, the company responsible for the project, says it has made changes to minimise the environmental impact of the development. In a statement, the developers asserted that plans to build training facilities at Camperdown Park had been removed, allowing trees to be preserved and reducing the need for felling.

According to the environmental report submitted, the development includes a number of measures to improve biodiversity. Plans include wildlife towers, nesting boxes for birds and bats, new tree planting and the creation of species-rich meadows. The report also confirms that a net gain in biodiversity can be achieved through the measures implemented.

Dundee City Council is avoiding comment on the project for now, indicating that the planning process is ongoing.
