Everything according to... delays

Currently, barriers and fences are being installed, and the final finishing works are taking place inside the stand in the food courts and toilets. For a long time, it was announced that the fourth stand at Arena Zabrze would be available to fans in March. However, it now turns out that the work will take longer. The desire to complete the work on the fourth stand to the best possible standard led to a compromise, and as a result, the work will not be finished sooner than the schedule set, which is March 2025. The completion of Stage I of the western stand construction at Arena Zabrze is now planned for May 2025, and this timeline remains the most realistic, said Jakub Szołdra-Laszczyk from the Press Office of the City Hall, as quoted by Dziennik Zachodni.

The former president of Stadion Spółka, Maciej Buchalik, responded to the Press Office's comments on the X portal: Nonsense. The deadline is March 16. To avoid a penalty of 59,000 PLN per DAY, an annex was signed, he wrote in response to a post published by the W Zabrzu portal, which quoted the Press Office representative.

What about the money to finish the entire investment?

The problems with completing the investment have been known for a long time. During the City Council session in June, President Rupniewska stated that to finish the Górnik stadium, between 25 and 45 million PLN is still needed. At level -1, the parking lot with 146 spaces is still to be finished; at level 0 – the locker room area with a spa, mix zone, sports museum, and sports pub; at level +1 – the business club area with catering facilities for around 1.5 thousand people, as well as the installation of seats; at level +2 – 15 business boxes with the installation of seats, as well as offices and a TV studio, President Rupniewska listed. Discussions are ongoing, and we are considering different solutions. I know that Stadion Spółka also has a few proposals, so we will continue to focus on this issue, she concluded. The new management of the company, since its appointment in August, has not commented on the financial issues.

The biggest debtor? Górnik. The city has a plan

According to information released in July of this year, the financial loss of the company managing the Arena Zabrze was reported to be as high as 19 million PLN. Of this amount, 8 million PLN are depreciation costs, 6 million PLN are interest costs, and 3 million PLN are property tax. Górnik is responsible for 64% of the company's revenue, while the remaining income comes from commercial agreements, including rental of stadium facilities. Górnik is our biggest debtor, constituting 2.5 times our liabilities. In other words, if we settled with the club, we would be in the positive, said Maciej Buchalik, the former vice-president of Stadion Spółka. Nevertheless, the stadium reached an agreement with Górnik, which resulted in a 2 million PLN reduction in the company’s costs, while also reducing the club's debt to the municipal enterprise by a similar amount.

What about the sale of the club?

On September 30, the City of Zabrze published a decree from the President of the City of Zabrze inviting entities to participate in negotiations for the sale of shares in the Górnik Zabrze S.A. company. Unlike the initial plans when the previous president's administration aimed to sell 51% of the club's shares, the new buyer will be able to acquire all shares held by the city, which amounts to over 80%.

At this moment, we can only confirm that two offers have been received in the process of selling shares in the Górnik Zabrze S.A. company. These offers are currently undergoing thorough formal verification conducted by the team responsible for assessing applications for participation in negotiations for the sale of shares in Górnik Zabrze S.A. The process is progressing according to schedule, and information on its progress will be presented when the next stages are completed, the Press Office informed. At the same time, activities are ongoing in Zabrze to conduct a referendum that may lead to the removal of Agnieszka Rupniewska from the position of the city’s mayor.
