The current Antonio Lorenzo Cuevas Stadium has been abandoned for four years. The Marbella FC board dreams of building a new and modern venue with an estimated cost of €115M. Meanwhile, the team continues to play temporarily at the Banús Football Center facilities, waiting for the new stadium to become a reality. The project is in the phase of public exhibition with its opening scheduled for 2026, but for the moment the facilities do not give more than displeasure.
And is that the stadium, which remains closed by risk of collapse, suffered on Sunday a fire provoked, according to reports of Area Costa del Sol, by the burning of mattresses. After neighbors alerted of the smoke, four firefighting squads moved to quell the flames, something they managed to do before any personal injuries were caused or the fire spread. Now, officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
