FC Barcelona is reportedly considering the possibility of playing the second-leg El Clásico of LaLiga at one of Europe’s major stadiums, according to the "Qué t’hi jugues" program on SER Catalunya.

If not at the new Spotify Camp Nou, then where?
The club has not ruled out holding this monumental clash outside Spain if it becomes impossible to play the game at the new Spotify Camp Nou due to further delays in construction. Barcelona recently announced it will continue using the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys until the end of April. However, extending their stay there any further is not an option, as a series of concerts is scheduled for May. Canceling these events would not only be logistically challenging but could also result in millions of euros in compensation payments to organizers.
So far, FC Barcelona has not presented LaLiga or the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) with a Plan B
in case the stadium isn’t ready to host El Clásico, as they remain optimistic that construction will be completed on time. Both governing bodies would need to approve the possibility of playing the game outside Spain. Barcelona is exploring this option because they believe a Barça-Real Madrid clash should take place in a large-capacity stadium that meets the highest standards—befitting one of the most-watched football events in the world. Matches of this magnitude generate revenue of between €8 and €9 million.
FC Barcelona avoids fueling speculation
When asked about the matter, the club emphasized that there are still too many what ifs
and prefers not to delve into speculation. However, they have made one thing clear: the club's main goal is to host the game against their arch-rivals at their home ground, Spotify Camp Nou.
What is Real Madrid’s stance on this?
Javier Herraez, a journalist specializing in Real Madrid, explained that the club had been anticipating this situation for several months. According to him, Los Blancos, relying on analyses and experience in numbers and construction works, predicted that playing the spring El Clásico at Camp Nou would not be feasible. Herraez pointed out that proper planning, as demonstrated by Real Madrid, allows construction to progress alongside hosting matches at the stadium.
Meanwhile, in Barcelona, under Joan Laporta's leadership, the lack of such preparation has led to significant challenges. If the club cannot use its own stadium, finding an alternative venue for matches becomes necessary. The decision on this matter lies with La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation, and Real Madrid has stated its willingness to adapt to the arrangements made by Javier Tebas, the organizer of the competition.
