Assessing the damage in Swansea
The Ospreys, rugby club based in Swansea were forced to move their Sunday European Challenge Cup match against the Lions to Parc y Scarlets. After consultations with EPCR and a thorough review of all alternative venues, including St Helen's and Dunraven Brewery Field, Parc y Scarlets was selected as the most suitable option. This decision prioritizes player welfare and fan safety, which remain our top priorities,
the Ospreys stated in an official announcement.
Currently, the extent of the damage to Swansea.com Stadium is unknown, and assessments are ongoing. Canceled matches, including the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park
The storm has caused numerous match cancellations across the UK, both due to safety warnings and damage to facilities. In Nottingham, at Meadow Lane, two scoreboard panels attached to a building directly above one of the goals became loose. Out of concern for player and fan safety, the match between Notts County and Colchester United was postponed.
Similarly, the Everton vs. Liverpool match, scheduled for December 7, was called off. A statement from Everton on Saturday morning read: Following a meeting of the Goodison Park Safety Advisory Group, attended by representatives of both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council, a decision was made this morning to postpone today’s match due to safety concerns in the area caused by high winds and a yellow weather warning in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.
This postponed fixture is not Everton's only issue. On Thursday evening, videos emerged online showing flooding at the Everton Stadium. Clips revealed water gushing down steps on one of the stands and near seating areas, raising concerns among fans.
