Brno gears up for new sports investments

During its last meeting, the Brno City Council approved the preparation of a spatial planning study, which was commissioned to the Brno City Architect's Office. As the mayor, Markéta Vaňková, explained, the document is to take into account the location of the stadium, transport infrastructure, environmental solutions and energy supply.

The redevelopment is still at least a few months away from starting, so there will be a bit of a wait. Many fans are looking for alternative activities at their fingertips so they don't have to wait. Interesting offers such as $1 deposit online casinos, where you can find the best offers for new players and for beginners and players looking for lower bets to minimise risk.

The location proposed by the councillors is the site of the current velodrome in the Exhibition Centre. The study aims to indicate whether it is the best place to build the stadium, but also to examine the spatial relationship between the new facility, Arena Brno and the nearby exhibition grounds. Councillor Petr Bořecký, responsible for spatial planning and development, noted that the Office of the City Architect has six months to complete the task.

Specification of project

According to previous agreements, the football stadium is expected to hold between 20,000 and 25,000 spectators. Negotiations are also underway with representatives of TJ Favorit Brno regarding the possibility of transferring their ownership to the city of Brno so that we can build a football stadium on the exhibition grounds in the future - explained Tomáš Aberl, councillor for sport. Aberl also announced consultations with the owners of Zbrojovka Brno football stadium to discuss the details of the planned construction.

Before the construction of the football stadium began, the Brno authorities committed to creating a new arena for athletics and track cycling. This facility would stand in the vicinity of Lužánky sports complex, close to the existing swimming stadium. The architectural competition phase of this project is already underway, from which the possible form of this hall will emerge - Mayor Vaňková noted.

Opposition criticises project

The idea of building a football stadium in Brno has been met with criticism, especially from the opposition. Councillor Tomáš Koláčný of the Czech Pirate Party grouping expressed concerns about the high cost of the project and its implementation in the context of other city investments. The city of Brno is already building the multi-purpose Arena Brno, it is planning the Janáček Cultural Centre, and this could mean a lack of funds for another big project Koláčný said.
