Long-awaited funding decision
On 24 October, just four days before the Bulgarian parliamentary elections, the country's interim government decided on a significant step. BGN 30 million (€15 million) has been allocated to resume work on construction of Varna stadium. The funds will be secured from the 2024 budget of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
It took more than 17 years for the decision to complete the construction. In today's dynamic world, we do not want to wait that long, especially when it comes to online activities. Online casinos and interesting offers such as SlotsCalendar, where you can find the best bonuses for new players and convenient payment methods, are becoming more and more popular all over the world.
According to a communiqué from the Bulgarian Council of Ministers, the state has taken 30,000 shares with a nominal value of BGN 1,000 each in Sports Complex Varna JSC, the entity responsible for the investment. The government argues that the decision is to protect the public interest in the construction of a modern sports facility.
A stadium that was never completed
The history of the Varna stadium dates back to 2007, when its construction began with great ambitions. The plan was to create a modern sports complex that met international standards. However, over the years the project came to a standstill due to financial problems. The authorities have not been able to provide adequate funds to complete it.
The decision to allocate additional funding aims to break this deadlock. The new funds will allow the resumption of construction of the stadium, which is expected to be able to hold 22,000 spectators. The project meets FIFA and UEFA requirements, paving the way for international sporting events to be hosted in Varna.
Ambitious infrastructure plans
The Varna stadium will not just be a sports facility. According to the plans presented, the entire complex is to cover an area of 51,550 m² and include a number of modern buildings and infrastructure. A key element of the project is a spacious car park, which will accommodate 716 cars on 23,130 m².
A communiqué from the Ministry of Youth and Sports stressed that the new investment will contribute to the development of sport in the region and create new opportunities for Varna residents. In this way, the public interest related to the construction of the sports facility will be protected by the state
the ministry noted.
Political controversy surrounding the decision
Although the decision to grant BGN 30 million was greeted with hope by the local community, there was no shortage of criticism. Many commentators note that the timing of the announcement - a few days before the elections - is no coincidence. Opponents of the government accuse the interim authorities of trying to gain support through strategic investments.
For the people of Varna, however, the decision is first and foremost an opportunity to revitalise the region. The stadium can become an important point on the sporting map of Bulgaria, attracting fans and investors. The completion of the project will also create new jobs and support the local economy.
