With the disappearance of El Cubo, normal traffic flow will be restored on Jerusalén Street, which has been blocked off since the beginning of this operation. The plan is for the building to be completely demolished by Monday, and by Thursday, September 5, after clearing the debris and with the start of the school year, normal traffic should resume on this road.

Next, the foundation of Gol Sur and the basement of the El Cubo building will be demolished. After completing these tasks in the current phase of construction of Nueva Romareda called 1A, excavation will continue for the basements. Foundations and retaining walls will be constructed. The total budget for all these tasks and previous demolitions is €3.1 million, and they are being carried out by the Temporary Business Union (UTE) OHLA-Deltapun.

Protection with a powerful message

Zaragoza never gives up. They will reduce it to ashes: not a brick will remain of its historic homes; a hundred of its temples will fall; its ground will split open, spewing flames; foundations will be blown into the air and roof tiles will plummet to the bottom of wells; but amidst the ruins and the dead, there will always be a living voice to say that Zaragoza never gives up. This is how Benito Pérez Galdós described it in Zaragoza from his Episodios Nacionales series. This was the motto that accompanied Real Zaragoza during their painful fight to avoid relegation.

Zaragoza never gives up—this will be the slogan that will dominate the canvas covering the work at Gol Sur starting next week. The blue and white canvas measures 72.5 meters wide by 6 meters high, with perimeter reinforcement and eyelets every 50 cm. To the left of the slogan, next to the coat of arms, will be the logos of DGA, the City Council, and the company La Nueva Romareda SL, which is overseeing the construction of the stadium. Its installation is intended to guarantee protection, concealment, and dust control in areas near the field and to enhance the image in television broadcasts from La Romareda.

A series of vertical metal trusses, spaced five meters apart, will be used as support elements. To the right side, the logos of LALIGA, the stadium, and Caravan Fragancias, the main sponsor of Real Zaragoza, will be displayed. In November of this year, Caravan Fragancias will celebrate a decade of supporting the team. The background of the canvas, in blue tones, will feature an actual photograph of Gol Sur fans during the last match of the 2023/2024 season against Albacete.

Could modernization boost sports in the region?

The Parliamentary Group of the Mixed Aragonese Party has submitted a proposal in the Aragonese Parliament (PNL), stating that the 20 million euros allocated by the Government of Aragon for the new La Romareda Stadium in Zaragoza should be permanently included in the annual budgets of the General Directorate of Sports, with the aim of promoting sports in the Community and ensuring the infrastructure necessary for this purpose in the region.
