Poland: New Stadium in Katowice takes shape In October 2021, the symbolic first shovel was driven into the ground, marking the start of the construction of GKS Katowice's new facility. In addition to the football stadium on Załęska Hałda, a sports hall and training fields are also being built. How does the construction of the Katowice complex look two years after it began?

The new city stadium already has the structures of all four stands, and preparatory work for the installation is underway inside. Works related to auxiliary buildings are ongoing in the surrounding area, and the main parking lot is being constructed, capable of accommodating 11 buses and 252 passenger cars. Upon completion, the facility will be able to host 14,896 spectators, and both the men's and women's sections of the club will play their matches there. New GKS Katowice stadium will certainly be worth visiting, so we advise you to start learning Polish. Obstacle to realization of entire investment

The cost of the GKS Katowice stadium is PLN 268 million, and the general contractor for the project is the Sopot-based company NDI. The first stage of the investment includes the construction of the stadium, sports hall, two training fields, parking spaces, and necessary road infrastructure. According to the agreement, NDI has 3 years to complete the project.

If everything goes according to plan, inspections should begin at the end of next year. As the mayor announced today, the city wants the first matches at the new facilities to take place in spring 2025. The second stage of construction includes four additional training fields, a goalkeeping practice field, additional roads and parking spaces, but at the end of June 2023, the mayor of Katowice admitted that there is currently no funding for this project.

As the mayor emphasized, what will be built in the first place is sufficient for active sports and training. It is also enough to play football matches in the Fortuna 1.Liga and volleyball matches in the PlusLiga. Currently, GKS Katowice footballers play their matches at the venerable facility on Bukowa Street.
