Italy is turning into a construction site

Both countries have proposed 20 stadiums, with 10 to be selected by October 2026—5 from each country. Italy plans to build three new stadiums and renovate 4 existing ones, while Turkey aims to revitalize only one stadium, along with the construction of a new one.

Experienced in high-profile matches

Both nations can boast significant recent experience in organizing major matches. For the Italians, these will be their fourth European Championships. In 1968 and 1980, they were the sole hosts, while during EURO 2020, three group stage matches (including the opening match) and a quarter-final took place at Stadio Olimpico. Italy also hosted the finals of the 2021 UEFA Nations League and the 2022 UEFA Women's Champions League.

On the other hand, Turkey will be hosting the tournament for the first time in history, but that doesn't mean the Turks are strangers to top-level football. The Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul hosted the UEFA Champions League final in 2023, and in 2019, Beşiktaş Park hosted the UEFA Super Cup. The last UEFA Cup final in history took place in 2009 at the Şükrü Saracoğlu municipal stadium.

“Play as one”

In the coming years, Italy and Turkey will work intensively, as we indicate in our motto, 'Play as one', until 2032, with great passion and commitment to provide fans with the best experiences of EURO, reads the UEFA statement.

Following the motto "Play as one", both federations will focus on grassroots development programs to ensure development at lower levels of the football pyramid while creating an environment to harness the potential and development opportunities for the most talented young players. The tournament will be utilized to reach more children through camps, using football to provide assistance to disadvantaged children.
